Spring Lecture Series: “Steam Comes to the Great Lakes”

May 2 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

- Free - $11

Steam Comes to the Great Lakes by Walter Lewis, Great Lakes Historian

2018 marks the 200th anniversary of steam on the upper Great Lakes (and the 201st anniversary for the Lakes as a whole). This presentation will explore the early story of steam around the Lakes and the particular challenges of bringing new technology to the edge of pioneer settlement and beyond. The story is populated by gentlemen and scoundrels, celebrations, breakdowns, shipwrecks and near misses and illustrated by a wide range of contemporary and modern artists.

Prior to the presentation, at 6:30 pm, the annual membership meeting of the Great Lakes Historical Society will be held.

This program is free with museum admission. Members are always free.

Registration is required.

You can also register by calling 419.214.5000 ext. 200 or email reservations@inlandseas.org.
