The Great Lakes Historical Society's
New/Upgraded Member Freighter Trip Contest

Throughout 2007, new members of The Great Lakes Historical Society, in addition to current members who upgraded their membership level, were entered for chances to win a trip for four (4) people aboard a 1,000-foot Great Lakes freighter during the 2008 shipping season.

Through the generosity of the Great Lakes Fleet, Inc./Key Lakes, Inc., The Great Lakes Historical Society is pleased to offer this trip. Trips aboard Great Lakes freighters typically are offered only to important friends of the steamship companies or through charitable fundraising events. They cannot be purchased by the general public. A trip aboard a freighter offers up to four passengers a unique opportunity to experience maritime life. Accommodations are comfortable and the food is wonderful, but the chance to stand in the pilothouse while on Lake Superior, or on deck as the freighter is locking through the Soo Locks, is priceless.

The drawing has been held, and The Great Lakes Historical Society is pleased to announce that Mr. James Jeffery of Sterling Heights, Michigan was the winner. Mr. Jeffery upgraded his family level membership to a sustaining membership.

The raffle was responsible for generating 265 new members and 187 upgraded memberships from current members. In financial terms, the raffle generated nearly $24,000 in additional revenue for the Society!

Raffle tickets were offered based on the following membership levels. Raffle tickets also were awarded to individuals who gave gift memberships during 2007.

• Become a new Senior or Regular/Family member, or upgrade your existing Senior membership to the Regular/Family level, and receive three (3) raffle tickets.
   
  
• Become a new Sustaining member, or upgrade your current membership, and receive five (5) raffle tickets.
   
  
• Become a new Contributing member, or upgrade your current membership, and receive eight (8) raffle tickets.
   
  
• Become a new Benefactor member, or upgrade your current membership, and receive twenty (20) raffle tickets.
   
  
• Become a new Patron member, or upgrade your current membership, and receive fifty (50) raffle tickets.
   
  
• Become a new Life member, or upgrade your current membership, and receive one hundred (100) raffle tickets.

This trip is available through the generosity of the Great Lakes Fleet, Inc./Key Lakes Fleet, Inc. The trip will accomdate up to four (4) passengers on either the 1,000-foot Edwin H. Gott or the Edgar B. Speer.
